You register a death at the municipality where the person died. In most cases the funeral director handles this, but you can also do it yourself.

    Get a doctor's certificate

    The doctor issues a declaration of death, which you need to register.

    Book a slot at the municipality

    Usually online or by phone with the municipality of death.

    Bring the right documents

    Doctor's declaration, the deceased's ID and your own ID.

    Order multiple certified copies

    Banks, insurers and pension funds each need their own copy.
